...it asked the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday to grant emergency use authorization for a booster dose of its one-shot vaccine.
The company said it submitted data on several booster intervals, ranging from two to six months after the first dose. Because the one-shot vaccine was authorized in February, many Americans who received the vaccine may have already passed those intervals.
Still, the move was likely reassuring for J&J recipients, who have largely felt left out in rollout of booster shots.
The FDA already cleared Pfizer-BioNTech booster shots for older Americans and other vulnerable groups. A third dose of the Moderna vaccine is available to certain immunocompromised individuals, but the company is pursuing a broader booster authorization as well.
