Welcome Home Event 2021

Governor Ricketts and Nebraska Department of Veterans' Affairs Director John Hilgert present Welcome Home challenge coins  to recently discharged servicemembers at the 2021 Welcome Home event.

On September 30, Governor Pete Ricketts hosted the 2021 Veterans Welcome Home event. Over 40 service members who have been discharged over the past two years were in attendance, along with their family members. The event was co-hosted by NDVA and Walmart. Various veterans’ service organizations were also at the event to share information on benefits for veterans and their family members, opportunities for networking and veteran organization membership, and resources for veteran employment.

Changes in Pay Coming to NDVA Teammates in November

Changes in pay are coming to teammates working at NDVA’s veterans’ homes. Beginning November 8, healthcare-related positions will receive a 30 percent pay line adjustment and support positions will receive a 20 percent pay line adjustment. Additionally, teammates working in our veterans’ homes will receive a $3 per hour pay differential and an increase in overtime pay amounts and eligibility. Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial

Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial Invitation

A dedication ceremony for the Central Nebraska Veterans Memorial will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Veterans Day, November 11, at the Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home at 4510 East 56th Street. Speakers at the dedication will include Governor Pete Ricketts, Congressman Adrian Smith, Kearney Mayor Stan Clouse, NDVA Director John Hilgert, and others. Parking will be available at Patriot Park to the south of the facility Attendees should arrive by 1:15 p.m. to accommodate for walk time to the memorial display, which is on the southeast corner of the facility grounds. Following the dedication will be an informal gathering at American Legion Post #52, located at 1223 Central Avenue in Kearney. For those unable to attend, the ceremony will be live streamed on the Kearney Area Chamber of Commerce’s Facebook page.

NDVA Presented with dotCOMM Gold Award for New Website

Veterans' Affairs director John Hilgert and Governor Pete Ricketts hold the dot comm award for the veterans affairs website.

On October 27, Governor Pete Ricketts and NDVA Director John Hilgert accepted a dotCOMM Gold Award for the new NDVA website, veterans.nebraska.gov, that launched in July 2020. The website, developed by NIC Nebraska, received recognition for making benefits and services more easily accessible to the state’s veterans. Using new and innovative technology, the NDVA website helps streamline veterans’ ability to connect with the agency and makes navigating available benefits more efficient. NIC Nebraska also announced the NDVA website was recently recognized with two additional awards this week, including a Davey Award for outstanding creative work and a MarCom Award for excellence in marketing and communications.
