Navy agrees to reassess ‘bad paper’ discharges in pending lawsuit settlement

The agreement is pending approval by the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut. It orders the Navy Discharge Review Board to reconsider cases in which the board denied upgrades despite evidence that veterans were struggling with post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury or military sexual trauma when they separated from the military.

VA is hiring thousands for expected ‘surge’ in backlogged benefits claims

Many of the claims hitting the backlog are from veterans suffering from bladder cancer, hyperthyroidism and Parkinson’s-like symptoms stemming from their exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. Congress passed a measure at the start of 2021 that placed those conditions on the presumptive list for VA benefits.
