Tracking the Variants
We recently learned that even vaccinated people can spread the
Delta variant of the coronavirus. So, should vaccinated
people continue to get tested for COVID-19, even if they're asymptomatic?
Experts don't exactly agree on the answer.
Dr. Michael Mina, an epidemiologist at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of
Public Health, said coronavirus testing will be an important tool for
fighting the spread of the virus. "Without testing we cannot see the
virus," he told
the Globe.
But the state Department of Public Health only recommends COVID-19 tests
for people with symptoms or who came into contact with an infected
person. Despite that recommendation, the demand for coronavirus testing
statewide has been growing, even as Massachusetts' vaccination efforts
continue to top the charts nationwide.
