Today, the Centers
for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released two tools to help
support states as they prepare to return to regular Eligibility and
Enrollment Operations.
The first tool
released is the Strategies States and U.S. Territories Can Adopt to
Maintain Coverage of Eligible Individuals as they Return to Normal
Operations. This tool will help states consider and adopt strategies to
maintain continuity of coverage for eligible individuals once the 12-month
COVID-19 unwinding period begins. This “punch list” includes operational
and policy strategies in several areas, all of which states are encouraged
to adopt.
CMS has also released
the Connecting Kids to Coverage: State Outreach, Enrollment and Retention
Strategies issue brief. The brief highlights effective and practical
strategies to improve state Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance
Program outreach, enrollment, and renewal activities to ensure all children
and families eligible for Medicaid and CHIP are able to enroll in and
retain their health coverage.
Today’s releases are
the latest in a series of guidance and tools CMS is issuing as part of its
commitment to ensure states have what they need so individuals enrolled in
Medicaid and CHIP are able to maintain their healthcare coverage.
