Forced Sexual Initiation and Early Sexual Debut and Associated Risk Factors and Health Problems Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women — Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys, Nine PEPFAR Countries, 2007–2018

During 2007–2018, in nine countries funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief, 14.4% to 40.1% of adolescent girls and young women had early sexual debut. Among those with early sexual debut, the odds of having been tested for HIV was 40% lower and the odds of increased risky sexual behaviors were elevated.

Prevalence and Characteristics of Subjective Cognitive Decline Among Unpaid Caregivers Aged ≥45 Years — 22 States, 2015–2019

Caregiving can negatively affect caregivers’ physical and mental health. Among unpaid adult caregivers aged ≥45 years, approximately one in eight reported subjective cognitive decline (the self-reported experience of worsening confusion or memory loss over the past year).

 

HIV Prevention Program Eligibility Among Adolescent Girls and Young Women — Namibia, 2019

Namibia’s 2019 Violence Against Children and Youth Surveys found that 62% of girls and young women aged 13–24 years were eligible for DREAMS programming, having one or more risk factors associated with HIV acquisition. The DREAMS program aims to reduce HIV incidence within this population.

 

Abortion Surveillance — United States, 2019

CDC conducts abortion surveillance to document the number and characteristics of women obtaining legal induced abortions and number of abortion-related deaths in the United States.

 

Collection of Data on Sex, Sexual Orientation, and Gender Identity by U.S. Public Health Data and Monitoring Systems, 2015–2018

We aimed to assess Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) data systems on the extent of data collection on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity as well as on age and race/ethnicity. Between March and September 2019, we searched 11 federal websites to identify CDC-supported or -led U.S. data systems active between 2015 and 2018. 

 

Knowing is Not Enough—Act on Your Family Health History

Has your mother or sister had breast cancer? Does your mother, father, sister, or brother have diabetes? If you answered “yes,” you are more likely to get the same disease as your parent or sibling and should consider earlier screening. Finding disease early can often mean better health in the long run.

 

COVID-19 Impact on Women

 

Risk for Stillbirth Among Women With and Without COVID-19 at Delivery Hospitalization — United States, March 2020–September 2021

Among 1,249,634 delivery hospitalizations during March 2020–September 2021, U.S. women with COVID-19 were at increased risk for stillbirth compared with women without COVID-19 (adjusted relative risk = 1.90; 95% CI = 1.69–2.15). The magnitude of association was higher during the period of SARS-CoV-2 B.1.617.2 (Delta) variant predominance than during the pre-Delta period.

 

COVID-19–Associated Deaths After SARS-CoV-2 Infection During Pregnancy — Mississippi, March 1, 2020–October 6, 2021

Pregnant and recently pregnant women are at increased risk for severe illness and death from COVID-19 compared with women who are not pregnant or were not recently pregnant. This report describes 15 COVID-19–associated deaths after infection with SARS-CoV-2 during pregnancy in Mississippi during March 1, 2020–October 6, 2021.
