Are you looking to improve legal services delivery and outreach for rural older adults?

Are you looking to improve legal services delivery and outreach for rural older adults in your service area? Reaching older adults who live in rural areas is a challenge faced by many legal and aging services providers. The Older Americans Act requires that the provision of legal services be prioritized to older adults with the greatest social and economic need, which includes those who experience geographic isolation. But in practice, limited resources and staff can make it a challenge to effectively reach rural seniors.
According to the Housing Assistance Council, approximately one-quarter of seniors live in rural communities. Rural older adults are more likely to have a lower median income, less access to services, and fewer long-term care options. Additionally, aging in place can be more challenging due to transportation and workforce issues. Legal assistance can be key to protecting the rights and access to services for older adults.
If you are looking to improve your current service delivery and outreach models to rural older adults, the National Center on Law & Elder Rights can provide guidance, suggestions, and connections to resources! NCLER provides free consultations to Legal Assistance Developers, legal services providers, and aging services partners. NCLER is available to answer inquiries on this issue and other issues that you may have about legal services delivery and models of service.
