Explaining the
Implications of Friday’s Contradictory Court Rulings About the Abortion
Drug Mifepristone
In separate court
rulings issued late Friday, two federal judges issued contradictory
rulings about an abortion drug, mifepristone, with one judge issuing a
nationwide preliminary injunction that would take effect in seven days
that would rescind the U.S. Food and Drug Administration’s decision to
approve the drug over two decades ago, and the other barring the agency
from changing its current policies.
A new post
by KFF’s experts explains the implications of the dueling decisions and
the potential next steps in the legal battles that could determine
whether the drug remains available in states where abortion remains
legal.
