This webinar introduces resources from the University of Illinois at Chicago’s ENGAGE-IL, an inter-professional, collaborative education and practice initiative to enhance the care of older adults. The education and training materials will improve healthcare providers' abilities and skills and empower patients and caregivers to optimize patient-and family-centered care for the growing older adult population in urban and rural Illinois, the nation, and globally. This webinar will:

1. Define Brain Health Across the Lifespan.
2. Describe the role of Engage-IL as a Geriatrics Workforce Enhancement Program (GWEP) to increase access to care and improve health outcomes for older adults with IDD.

3. Introduce the Engage-IL 27 online education modules including the new modules specific for people with IDD, describe who can benefit from taking these modules, and how they can help to improve health outcomes of older adults with IDD.
4. Review ENGAGE-IL strategies that can maximize engagement by people with IDD and their supports in Brain Health strategies.

New Findings in Arthritis

 

 

Nearly 58.5 Million U.S. Adults Have Arthritis

This study reports the number of US adults with arthritis increased from 54.4 million to 58.5 million. Also, the number of US adults whose activities are limited because of arthritis increased faster than previously projected from 23.7 million to 25.7 million over the same time-period. Among the general US adult population, 1 in 10 adults is limited in their everyday activities due to arthritis. Read the full report.

 

 

71% of Active Adults With Arthritis Walk for Physical Activity 

 

Physical activity can reduce arthritis pain. Among physically active US adults with arthritis, walking is the most common activity (71%), followed by gardening (13%) and weightlifting (7%). Thirty-three percent of adults with arthritis are not physically active, leaving room for provider intervention and public health action. Read the full report.
