Summary of Cost and Impact of Health Provision in Original Build Back Better Act

While President Biden and Congressional Democrats continue negotiations on budget reconciliation legislation known as the Build Back Better Act, KFF has summarized many of the major health coverage and financing provisions in the original proposal.

With a focus on how and how many people may be impacted by each provision and Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates of the potential costs or savings to the federal government, the overview brief looks at proposals about:

  • ACA Marketplace Subsidies
  • New Medicare Dental, Hearing, and Vision Services
  • Controlling Prescription Drug Prices and Spending
  • Medicare Part D Benefit Redesign
  • Medicaid Coverage Gap
  • Maternal Care and Postpartum Coverage and Care
  • Permanent Extension of the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP)
  • Continuous Coverage for Children in Medicaid / CHIP
  • Medicaid Home and Community Based Services and the Direct Care Workforce
  • Paid Family and Medical Leave

As the size and specifics of the evolving package are decided on in the coming weeks, KFF will be tracking the potential effects of the health policy provisions on people and the nation’s health care system.
