Connecting Students to Coverage This Back-to-School Season

Wednesday, June 6, 2018
2:00 p.m - 3:00 p.m. EDT
As parents get their children prepared for the new school year, purchasing new classroom supplies and signing up for fall sports and other extracurricular activities are often at the top of many family’s to-do lists. It is also a time when ensuring proper health coverage should be a top priority.

Back-to-School season is a key time to engage with parents about getting their eligible children enrolled in Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

Children who have health insurance miss fewer classes and perform better in school than those who are uninsured. With health insurance, they can get the immunizations, check-ups, eye exams, dental visits and other care they may need to fully participate in classroom, after-school and summer activities.

Because of this connection between academic performance and health care, schools and organizations that work with students are important partners for successful school-based outreach. By developing and strengthening these connections during the Back-to-School season, you can connect kids and families to an A+ support team who are able to enroll more students in free or low-cost insurance and build a foundation for a successful and healthy school year!
Join us on Wednesday, June 6 at 2:00 p.m. EDT to explore ways your organization can work with schools and other education-focused groups to reach eligible families and enroll children in Medicaid and CHIP, as well as hear about best practices and proven tips that you can use to make your outreach and enrollment efforts a success this Back-to-School season.
Speakers include:
  • Evelyn Mercado, Community Programs Manager, HOPES CAP, Inc.
  • Jodi Ray, M.A., Instructor Program Director, Florida Covering Kids & Families
  • Rebecca Shaw, Project Coordinator, The School Superintendents Association (AASA)
