Remembering Those Who Served on Memorial Day

By Ken Burdick
Today, we celebrate Memorial Day, a holiday specifically created to honor Americans who died while serving in our nation’s military. Since 1775, nearly 1 million brave men and women have lost their lives to protect our freedom. It’s an extraordinary sacrifice and one for which I’m incredibly grateful.
For many, Memorial Day signals the unofficial start of summer; however, I hope that Americans will also take a moment to honor our veterans. On this day, we all have an opportunity to pay-it-forward and remember veterans who have given so much.
At WellCare, we fly our flags at half-staff to honor those who lost their lives in the line of duty. And, as I gather with my family and friends, we will reflect on how fortunate we are and thank our veterans for protecting our freedom.
How will you celebrate Memorial Day this year? Will you visit a memorial or attend a local parade? We’d love to hear how you plan to observe this important national holiday.
