Everyone is always talking about growth. People want to do more,
become more successful. From big corporations to small businesses, companies
want to continuously expand, get bigger, increase their profits and
"grow" their business. Most people also want to "grow,"
whether that means making more money, getting a new job, or improving their
life in some other way important to them. Sometimes growth is a slow process
that can make us impatient or frustrated. Sometimes it feels like we are
stagnating. But other times, growth can be so swift and extensive it seems
literally "EXPLOSIVE". This is the kind of growth many people envy,
and companies covet.
So how do we create EXPLOSIVE growth?
What does it take? Why is it that some people grow and succeed
quickly, while others are left just spinning their wheels, stuck in the same
place and not getting ahead?
From my personal experience, I have identified five steps that
create explosive growth. They are:
1. PERSONAL GROWTH
If we're not growing every day, we can't expect explosive growth.
How far and how fast you succeed depends on your level of personal growth. If
you can't grow yourself, you can't grow your team. Are you growing by chance or
by design? In order to experience explosive growth, you must develop a
growth plan and consciously work it every day. You can't just do it
occasionally. You have to constantly expand and stretch yourself to read,
write, think and reflect every day about learning something new, or finding a
new way to do things, in order to be creative. When was the
last time you tried something for the first time?
2. PARTNERING UP
Focus on your areas of strength and identify your areas of
weakness. Most people just focus on their weaknesses. Focus on your strengths,
stay in your 'gift zone' and get out of your comfort zone. Find a partner who
is strong where you aren't and learn to work together. You will carry each
other and grow from the experience. Create the synergy to fuel your explosive
growth.
3. COMMITMENT
Explosive growth requires consistent commitment and dedication.
Being committed means you do whatever you have to do to grow, even if the
circumstances are difficult. Being interested is different than being
committed. Being merely interested means you only do what you need do when
circumstances allow or when it's comfortable or convenient. Are you ready to do
whatever you have to do, whenever you have to, NO MATTER WHAT?
4. PASSION AND ENTHUSIASM
No matter how good you are, you must have passion and enthusiasm
to elevate the impact of your work. Enthusiasm is what brings energy to your
work. Without it you can't grow. Passion and enthusiasm are linked to
everything else. If you don't have them, you won't have the drive that leads
you to commit to the necessary steps to success.
"Nothing great was ever achieved
without enthusiasm."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
5. LEGACY
Everyone wants to be somebody. The reality is that explosive
growth requires developing people to be better than yourself and surrounding
yourself with them. By doing so, you are then really leading the leaders, not
the followers. And these leaders will become the legs of your legacy.
They make the transition from just developing products to developing people. By
further developing people, they help you multiply your
efforts to create explosive growth in both your business and your life. By
investing in other people, you also invest in yourself and your mission in
business.
Let's figure out what steps you are missing along the path to
EXPLOSIVE growth. Are you fully committed to your own personal growth? Do you
have a growth plan? Do you need to improve or change it? Ask yourself these
questions. Then invest in yourself and the others around you and let me know
how much and how explosively you grow.
"Everyone chooses one of two roads in life- the old and the
young, the rich and the poor, men and women alike. One is the broad,
well-traveled road to mediocrity, the other the road to greatness and
meaning." Dr. Stephen R. Covey
