Postal Service endures financial woes as clerks, carriers worry about their health

In the Postal Service’s Dallas District, which encompasses cities in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and stretches into East Texas, nearly 30 employees have tested positive for COVID-19 as of Sunday, according to union leaders who said they get daily updates in teleconferences with USPS leadership.

No deaths have been reported in the Dallas District. But across the county, at least 44 postal workers have died of COVID-19, according to the American Postal Workers Union.

A Dallas letter carrier who balances his work delivering mail with time spent as a union representative said he hears from co-workers that they’ve struggled to find places to eat, use the restroom and wash their hands.
