Little did I know that after I
wrote about gratitude in last week’s newsletter, our country would be faced
with an unbearable tragedy, a school shooting that could leave all of us numb.
But even
in our darkest times, there are always people who find light and shine it on
others.
Carlos
Hernandez, though deep in his own grief for his community in Uvalde, Texas,
decided to serve meals to those who were too distraught to cook for themselves.
Patrick
Johnson drove seven hours to Uvalde and loaded his car full of toys just to
help spread even the smallest amount of joy. "When you lose something,
especially as a child, you need something else to hold onto," he told CNN.
"It brings joy to the kids, so it brings joy to me."
And
Bonnie Fear with Lutheran Church
Charities brought a cavalry of eight golden retrievers to serve as
emotional support dogs for the town.
Just
think, each of these tremendous acts
of kindness plays a part in helping a community heal. I am grateful
people like them exist.
So
whether it is a global pandemic, a tragedy that brings a nation to its knees or
just the knowledge that someone out there simply had a bad day, it’s kindness,
that light, that helps mend our society.
Be kind. We need it more than ever.
