HHS Secretary Becerra Invokes Defense Production Act for Third Time to Further Increase Production of Infant Formula for American Families May 27, 2022   U.S. Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra today invoked the Defense Production Act (DPA) for a third time in less than a week, moving to ensure Cargill Inc. (Cargill) can deliver the raw materials to maximize production of infant formula. Read full news release

 

Statement from HHS Secretary Becerra: 2022 Medicare Part B Premium Increase Attributable to Alzheimer’s Drug Aduhelm Will Be Adjusted and Incorporated Into Upcoming 2023 Medicare Premium Determination May 27, 2022   Today, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra announced that Medicare Part B premiums paid by Medicare beneficiaries for 2022 should be adjusted downward to account for an overestimate in costs attributable to the inclusion of new Alzheimer's drug Aduhelm within the Medicare program for reimbursement. HHS Applauds 12-Month Postpartum Expansion in California, Florida, Kentucky, and Oregon May 25, 2022   Today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) through the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) approved California, Florida, Kentucky, and Oregon, actions to expand Medicaid and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) coverage to 12 months postpartum for a total of an additional 126,000 families across their states, annually—supporting 57,000; 52,000; 10,000; and 7,000 parents; respectively.  Read full news release

HHS Secretary Becerra Establishes ARPA-H within NIH, Names Adam H. Russell, D.Phil. Acting Deputy Director May 25, 2022   Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra today announced the formal establishment of the Advanced Research Project Agency for Health (ARPA-H) as an independent entity within the National Institutes of Health and the appointment of Adam H. Russell, D.Phil., as acting deputy director. Currently, Dr. Russell is the Chief Scientist at University of Maryland's Applied Research Laboratory for Intelligence and Security (ARLIS).
