Study links fiber-enriched foods to liver cancer risk
Research published in the journal Gastroenterology linked
consuming foods enriched with fermentable fiber, or fiber that can be broken
down in the gut, to an increased risk of liver cancer in men with high bile
acid levels. "The greater our understanding of the biochemistry involved
in the breakdown of dietary fiber and its impact on health such as liver
cancer, the closer we get to developing new, effective treatments,"
commented registered dietitian Brian Power, who was not involved in the
research.
