How the dogs and cats are faring since the coronavirus locked the doors of the Dallas animal shelter

From Metro columnist Sharon Grigsby:

Since becoming director of Dallas Animal Services in October 2017, Ed Jamison has spent every waking moment trying to get potential adopters and fosters into the shelter.

When the coronavirus closed the building to the public March 24, Jamison and his staff knew they needed a new strategy if they hoped to sustain their record-setting live release rate — and not be forced to resort to euthanasia to deal with rising populations.

"Now we are working to get animals out while limiting human contact," he told me. "That’s a huge shift for us."
