from Dallas County
Dallas
County continued a four-day trend of record coronavirus daily cases Monday —
reporting 572 new cases.
The
county also reported one additional death, an Irving man in his 40s who had
underlying high-risk health conditions but had not been hospitalized.
Dallas
County has now seen 20,737 cases — 7.9 for every thousand residents — and 353
deaths. The county does not report a number of recoveries.
The
number of people hospitalized in Dallas County with COVID-19 grew to a new high
of 611.
County
Judge Clay Jenkins noted in a written statement that fewer hospitalizations are
usually reported on weekends because not every hospital reports on those days.
“Hopefully,
this is because the hospitals have made it a point to increase accuracy of
weekend reporting, but either way the numbers are of great concern,” he said.
Health
officials said updated data on hospitalizations, ICU admissions and
emergency-room visits will not be available until Tuesday because of the lag on
weekend reporting. County officials and health experts have focused on those
key indicators to determine guidelines for everyday activities during the pandemic.
Jenkins
said people should always wear a mask when around people who aren’t household
members and should avoid unnecessary trips outside of the home.
“Ask
yourself if the trip is a desire or a necessity,” Jenkins said.
Jenkins
also said people should avoid in-person activities that require them to take
off their masks, such as dining.
Cases of
the virus associated with multiple large social gatherings, including house
parties, have been increasing in June, officials said.
“We are
seeing significant growth throughout Texas and here in North Texas in the
number of COVID-19 cases, and if this trend does not reverse, it will have a
very serious and negative impact on public health and our economy,” Jenkins
said.
Also
Monday, the federal prison in Seagoville announced it had begun mass testing
its inmates to help identify those who are asymptomatic carriers of the
coronavirus. Those test results may “create an upsurge” in positive test
results for Dallas County, prison officials said, although most inmates who
test positive have mild or no symptoms.
Tarrant County
Tarrant
County reported 263 new coronavirus cases Monday, but no additional deaths from
the virus.
There are
388 people hospitalized for the virus, county officials reported.
A total
of 11,739 cases, 225 deaths and 5,059 recoveries have been reported in Tarrant
County.
Collin County
Collin
County officials reported 119 new coronavirus cases Monday, raising the
county’s total to 2,882.
The
county says 127 patients remain hospitalized with the virus, and 2,147 have
recovered.
The
county’s death toll from COVID-19 remains at 42.

residents of long-term care facilities. The county has seen 26 total cases
associated with such facilities.
Denton
County has a total of 2,740 coronavirus cases and has seen 37 deaths.

Coronavirus cases in
Texas
There have been 156,682 cases of
Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 infections and 2,413 deaths across
the state of Texas, including 41,127 cases and 725 deaths in
counties included in the North Central Texas Council of Governments.
Notes about the data: County totals do not include repatriation
cases. Patients may be undergoing treatment in facilities in other counties.
Counties are determined to be trending downward if their past 14 days of
seven-day daily case averages has a downward trajectory and they do not have
any period of four consecutive days of increased daily cases within the past 14
days.
City figures include cities in Dallas, Tarrant,
Denton, Collin, Ellis and Rockwall counties, though not every county updates
city totals daily. Ellis County ceased updating cases by city on June 23.
Daily totals may differ from offical state and
local agencies due to reporting times for new data. All testing totals include
only tests that have returned a result. County of origin is unknown or pending
assignment for 515,428 tests.
