Giving Pause to Those Who Made the Ultimate Sacrifice—Letter from Commissioner Bush

While this holiday weekend is often used to kickoff summer with friends and family, let us not lose sight of this especially somber occurrence. Since the founding of our nation, more than 650,000 sons, daughters, parents, and siblings have paid the ultimate price so that we may live more freely today. This weekend, please join me in remembering their ultimate sacrifices. Let us also pray for the men and women who lost their brothers and sisters in arms in combat, and for closure to the families of the servicemembers lost in battle who have yet to be recovered.

This Memorial Day, we remember every servicemember who has given their life on behalf of our great nation. For those who continue to serve, we pray for your continued safety.

We encourage all Texans to join us in honoring the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice. Ceremonies are scheduled at each of the four cemeteries (Abilene, Corpus Christi, Killeen, and Mission).

We were honored to take part in a sending off ceremony for him as he made his way to Fredericksburg for the 77th reunion which was held at the National Museum of the Pacific War.

Family Drives Overnight to Attend Unaccompanied Veteran Burial

Unaccompanied Veteran Burials are planned when no known family can attend. The most recent ceremony held for U.S. Army Veteran Daniel Hegarty at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery, however, drew the attention of out of state relatives who drove overnight to attend the service.

It is because of the widespread community support of this essential program that we are able to continue ensuring that NO VETERAN is ever left behind.
