‘We’re trying to survive’: As Texas reopens, Dallas business owners, customers test new social rules

Friday marked the first wave of businesses reopening across the state of Texas, as Gov. Greg Abbott’s latest order loosens restrictions imposed to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Restaurants, malls and movie theaters can reopen with 25% capacity as part of the first phase of the governor’s order. Businesses are free to choose whether to reopen — and many, like North Texas indoor movie theaters, have said they aren’t ready to do so.

Reporters with The Dallas Morning News were out across the Dallas area on Friday to see how North Texans spent their day and how businesses fared.
