Medicare managers are reporting strong Medicare Advantage plan enrollment this month.


The number of people enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans increased to about 22 million this month, up 9.7% from the total recorded a year ago, according to an analysis of monthly enrollment report spreadsheets posted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.


Current Medicare Advantage plan enrollment is also up from 21 million in the CMS enrollment data for January.

The total number of people eligible to sign up for Medicare Advantage plans increased 5.3%, year-over-year, to 64 million.

Growth ranged from just 3.6% in Hawaii to 132% in Minnesota.


In Minnesota, the total number of people eligible to sign up for Medicare Advantage plans held steady at about 1 million, but the number of people in Medicare Advantage plans increased to 401,305, from 172,662.

Enrollment in Medicare Part D prescription drug plans increased just 0.2%, to 25.5 million.
