WASHINGTON DC – The University of Mississippi
Medical Center (UMMC), one of the south’s leading medical
providers, just took another giant leap forward by attaining URAC’s Telehealth
Accreditation, which signifies UMMC’s commitment to high-quality telehealth
services leading to improved patient outcomes. URAC’s Telehealth
Accreditation is the
first independent national program to meet the demand of health care
stakeholders, including payers and consumers, for an objective validation
of the highest standards for telemedicine quality and safety.
“We’re proud to have our hard work and high-quality program
recognized by such an esteemed organization,” said Tearsanee
Carlisle Davis, DNP, FNP-BC Director, Clinical and Advanced Practice
Operations at UMMC Center for Telehealth; Assistant Professor, UMMC School
of Nursing. “We are firm believers in the power of telehealth to bring more
services to even the most remote parts of our state. This accreditation is
another assurance to patients, providers, and insurers that telehealth is
high-quality care administered in a new way.”
“Achievement of the URAC Telehealth Accreditation seal is a
mark of high-performing telehealth providers who believe in and practice
excellence,” said Shawn Griffin, M.D., chairman and CEO of URAC.
“Making the effort to become accredited demonstrates an
organization’s commitment to quality,” he added. “It’s not an easy process.
It challenges you to raise the bar on quality and provide better care to
patients.”
“It wasn’t easy, but that’s part of its attraction,” Davis
agreed. The process “gave us a chance to see what we were already doing
well and the opportunity to improve in other areas.”
URAC’s telehealth standards were developed over several
years after close consultations with organizations across the entire health
care delivery spectrum. For more information about URAC’s Telehealth
Accreditation call 202-326-3973, email BusinessDevelopment@urac.org or visit urac.org.

health-related professions, graduate studies, population health and
pharmacy. (The School of Pharmacy is headquartered on the University of
Mississippi campus in Oxford.) Enrollment in all programs is more than
3,000 students.
The Medical Center's three-part mission is to improve the
lives of Mississippians by educating tomorrow's health care professionals,
by conducting health sciences research and by providing cutting-edge
patient care. A major goal of the Medical Center is the elimination of
differences in health status of Mississippians based on race, geography,
income or social status.
