These offers of up to 50% off vacation expenses are proof
that life gets better with age.

You’re
not just getting older, you’re getting better. And the world wants to reward
your six decades of experience by offering deals aplenty.
Traditionally,
turning 60 has been a signal that it’s time to slow down. But baby boomers are
scrapping that notion. And these deals reward those on the move.
The
discounts on this list are geared toward travel and are available to people in
their 60s. You don’t have to join a group like AARP to take advantage.
Following
are some great offers that kick in during your 60s.
1.
Amtrak
Whether
you travel for work or fun, turning 65 will earn you a price break on Amtrak.
You can score a 15% discount on most fares on most of this carrier’s trains.
If you
plan to travel into Canada, you can score a 10% discount on cross-border
services operated jointly by Amtrak and VIA Rail Canada. This discount applies
to riders age 60 and older.
Some
limitations apply to these discounts, so be sure to check
Amtrak’s website before planning your next trip.
2.
Greyhound
If you
prefer to travel by road rather than rail, Greyhound has a deal for you.
Passengers who are 62 or older can net a small discount — 5% — on fares.
The
senior discount is not available on Greyhound Canada routes, and other
restrictions apply. So be sure to check Greyhound’s website.
3.
National Park Service
Many
people dream of traveling the country in retirement, and the National Park
Service helps turn such fantasies into reality by offering $80
lifetime passes for citizens and permanent residents who have turned
62.
Or, if
you prefer, get an annual senior pass for just $20.
The
pass also qualifies you for a 50% discount on some amenity fees associated with
park facilities. This discount may apply to the following fees:
- Camping
- Swimming
- Boat launch
- Specialized
interpretive services
You can
buy national park passes in person at federal
recreation sites, via mail or online. There is an additional $10 processing fee
if you buy the pass by mail or online.
4.
Marriott
Travelers
who are 62 or older have a choice at Marriott: Save up to 25% on their room
rate (on select dates) or take advantage of the Senior Stay for Breakfast
package that includes:
- One
night room accommodations
- Buffet breakfast
for two adults at Villa de Flora Restaurant each morning
See the
Marriott website for details.
5.
Holiday Inn
Participating
Holiday Inn hotels also offer a senior discount to travelers age 62 and older.
However, the chain does not specify the size of the price break on its website.
In
addition, Holiday Inn states the following:
“Discounts
on the non-discounted room rate at any participating hotel in the U.S. and
Canada will be available to guests who are 62 years of age or older or with
valid membership ID of a retired persons organization.”
Call
your preferred location for details, or use the search feature on the senior discount webpage — you can select the
“Senior Discount” option in the “Rate Preference” field.
6.
Crowne Plaza
Crowne
Plaza Hotels & Resorts is another hotel chain on our list that offers a
senior discount to travelers who are 62 or older.
Like
Holiday Inn, Crowne Plaza does not specify the size of the price break on its
website. But you can select the “Senior Discount” option in the “Rate
Preference” field when searching for a hotel on Crowne Plaza’s site.
7.
Choice Hotels
If you
are 60 or older, make a reservation in advance and you can save up to 10% at
Choice Hotels.
Choice
Hotels brands include about a dozen chains — such as Clarion, Rodeway Inn and
EconoLodge. See the Choice Hotels website for details.
8.
Motel 6
Blow
out the candles on your 60th birthday, and you are instantly eligible for up to
10% off the Motel 6 “nightly best available rate” at each of the chain’s more
than 1,400 locations.
See the
Motel
6 website for details.
9.
Wyndham Hotel Group
Guests
who are at least 60 can get a discount on their stay at a hotel in the Wyndham
Hotel Group. That includes brands such as Days Inn, Ramada and Travelodge.
The
precise discount amount is not specified. See the Wyndham website for more details.

Some of those price breaks are available to people as young as 50.
