Louisville-based Humana Inc.
has expanded its board of directors with the election of a former CEO that has
deep roots in the retail and customer services spaces.
The
company announced Monday that it added Karen Katz to
the board. She is the former CEO of the Dallas-based international luxury
retailer Neiman Marcus Group LTD LLC. She held the role for 2010 to February
2018, according to a news release from the company.
Katz's
election expands the board from 10 to 11 members, according to a filing with
the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Kurt Hilzinger,
Humana's board chairman, extolled Katz's experience and commitment to customer
service in an industry transformed by the rise of the internet.
"She
brings a holistic approach to customer service, including acumen for employing
technology to advance service delivery, combined with demonstrated success in
growing business through forward-thinking leadership," Hilzinger said.
"As Humana works to connect with the millions of people we serve in ways
that continue to help them achieve better health outcomes, Karen will provide
valuable perspective and expertise to Humana’s board."
Katz
joined Neiman Marcus in 1985 and has held several top executive roles. These
include being the president of Neiman Marcus Online and the president and CEO
of Neiman Marcus Stores.
Katz is
also a board member for Neiman Marcus Group, Under
Armor Inc. (NYSE: UA) and Casper Sleep Inc. She also holds an undergraduate
degree from the University of Texas and an MBA from the University of
Houston.
Humana is by far the area's largest company in terms of annual revenue. Last year, the company
brought in $57 billion. It is also one of the area's largest local employers.
