Republicans Outright Rebel Against Democrat Call to Mask Up

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has mandated masks must be worn or there will be fines. Republicans marched, maskless, to the Senate floor to protest. From the story: Reports estimated that between 40 and 50 Republicans took part in the demonstration, including House Freedom Caucus chairman Andy Biggs of Arizona, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, Matt Gaetz and Byron Donalds of Florida, Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Chip Roy, Louie Gohmert and Ronny Jackson of Texas, Madison Cawthorn of North Carolina, and Warren Davidson of Ohio (NY Post).

From another story: Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., called the renewed mask mandates a “socialist takeover of America” led by Pelosi and President Biden (Fox News).

From Senator Ted Cruz: Nancy Pelosi has no authority to disrespect the men and women of Congress by threatening to fine them or put them in jail for not wearing a mask (Twitter).

The public is also rebelling as the power grab hurts Democrats. From Glenn Reynolds: The divide widens on the question of whether government officials will hold on to too much power in the future: 62 percent of voters say yes.

Nearly two-thirds of white Democrats disagree. But note well: By a whopping 64-27 margin, black Democrats fear that officials will abuse their vast new powers…Perhaps that explains the Democrats’ race obsession in recent years. As the Democratic Party becomes a party of the white metropolitan class and its government-dependent clients, the GOP has emerged as a multiracial party of the working class (NY Post).

From Florida governor Ron DeSantis: I think it’s very important that we say unequivocally: no to lockdowns, no to school closures, no to restrictions, and no mandates…Americans should be free to choose how they govern their affairs…not consigned to live in a Faucian dystopia” (Twitter).

Entrepreneurs are taking advantage of the mood (Rebel).
