Transmission of COVID-19 from mother to baby likely rare
A study published in The BMJ found that pregnant mothers with
COVID-19 had a low chance of passing the coronavirus infection to their baby
before, during and after childbirth, adding that only 1.8% of over 14,000
babies born to mothers with SARS-CoV-2 infection tested positive on a PCR test.
Findings also highlighted that babies born to mothers with severe SARS-CoV-2
are more likely to test positive and that SARS-CoV-2 positivity was not
associated with mode of delivery and breastfeeding.
