Today, the Centers for
Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) released an updated public use file
(PUF) that presents a preliminary, high-level overview of Medicare
utilization and spending information from Medicare FFS claims related to the
administration of the COVID-19 vaccine. This updated PUF adds three more
months of data and refreshes the previously released figures with more
complete data. The PUF shows that between December 11, 2020 and June
30, 2022, Medicare payments for the administration of the COVID-19 vaccine
were nearly $2.7 billion. The PUF is based on Medicare FFS claims CMS
received by July 29, 2022. [Note:
For dates of service prior to 2022, all claims for the administration of the
COVID-19 vaccine were paid through Original Medicare for both FFS and MA
beneficiaries. Beginning on January 1, 2022, COVID-19 vaccine administration
encounters for MA beneficiaries are billed through the beneficiary’s MA plan
and are not included in this report.] To view the PUF visit: https://www.cms.gov/medicare-covid-19-vaccine-analysis |
