Trends and Distribution of In-Hospital Mortality Among Pregnant and Postpartum Individuals by Pregnancy Period

Nearly half of pregnancy-related deaths happen during inpatient hospitalizations, more than one-quarter of which may occur after childbirth, and the pregnancy-related mortality ratio is increasing in the hospital setting. This study aimed to examine long-term trends in inpatient death rates among pregnant and postpartum individuals and proportion of deaths by pregnancy period (antenatal, delivery, and postpartum).

 

Participation in an HIV Prevention Intervention and Access to and Use of Contraceptives among Young Women: A Cross Sectional Analysis in Six South African Districts

This study investigated whether young women's participation in a combination HIV-prevention intervention was associated with accessing and using condoms and other contraceptives in six South African districts.

 

Prompt HIV Diagnosis and Antiretroviral Treatment in Postpartum Women is Crucial for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission During Breastfeeding: Survey Results in a High HIV Prevalence Community in Southern Mozambique After the Implementation of Option B

World Health Organization recommends promoting breastfeeding without restricting its duration among HIV-positive women on lifelong antiretroviral treatment (ART). There is little data on breastfeeding duration and mother to child transmission (MTCT) beyond 24 months. The study compared the duration of breastfeeding in HIV-exposed and HIV-unexposed children and identified factors associated with postpartum-MTCT in a semi-rural population of Mozambique.

 

Hepatitis C Virus Testing During Pregnancy After Universal Screening Recommendations

This study evaluates the effect of the 2020 CDC and U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations on hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening among pregnant persons nationally and by health insurance type.

Menstrual Irregularities and Vaginal Bleeding After COVID-19 Vaccination Reported to V-Safe Active Surveillance, USA in December, 2020-January, 2022: An Observational Cohort Study

Anecdotal reports of menstrual irregularities after receiving COVID-19 vaccines have been observed in post-authorization and post-licensure monitoring. This study aimed to identify and classify reports of menstrual irregularities and vaginal bleeding after COVID-19 vaccination submitted to a voluntary active surveillance system.

 

Preterm Birth among Pregnant Persons with Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 Infection

This study examined the relationship between trimester of SARS-CoV-2 infection, illness severity, and risk for preterm birth by analyzing data for 6,336 pregnant persons with SARS-CoV-2 infection in 2020 in the United States. 

 

Safety of Booster Doses of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccine in Pregnancy in the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System

The objective of this study was to evaluate and summarize reports to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a national spontaneous reporting system, in pregnant people who received a booster dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine.
