First Session of the 108th Legislature Has
Begun |

On January 4th, the First Session of the 108th Nebraska
Legislature began. The First Session runs until June 9th, and new bills were
introduced through January 18th. NDVA tracks all military and veteran-related
legislation introduced in each session, and updates are sent out via email
each Friday until the Legislature adjourns sine die. If you would like to
receive legislative tracker emails, you can manage your email settings by
clicking the “Update Preferences” link at the bottom of this email. You can
also view our legislative tracker on our Legislative Issues page on our
website, along with other information about the Nebraska Legislature. |

Service Showcase: State Service Office |

Our State Service Office is here to help veterans and
their families in applying for benefits. Our team of accredited state service
officers can determine eligibility for various benefits, review and assist
with applications, file claims with the USDVA, check claims’ status, and
assist in the appeals process if needed. Our state service officers are
experts on the benefits and services that are available and navigating the
process of securing those benefits. Visit https://veterans.nebraska.gov/vso to find
contact information, set up an in-person appointment, or live chat with a
service officer through our website. |

NDVA Military Documentary Grant Now Accepting
Submissions |
|||
The Nebraska Department of Veterans’ Affairs (NDVA) is
now accepting applications for the NDVA Military Documentary Grant program.
The deadline for applications is February 21, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. (CT). The
NDVA Military Documentary Grant program was created as part of the Military
Base Development and Support Fund established by the Nebraska Legislature in
2022. It includes up to $5 million in funding for a documentary or miniseries
highlighting the rich history of the U.S. Strategic Command, its strategic
mission, and the major bases that support its mission. |

UNL BBR Webinar: The Impact of Nebraska
Military Assets |

The University of Nebraska-Lincoln
Bureau of Business Research partnered with the Nebraska Commission on
Military and Veteran Affairs to examine the economic impact of federal
spending on military assets and support for veterans in Nebraska. A webinar
will be held on February 10, 2023 to present the Fiscal Year 2021 update in
these areas. Mitchel Herian, Project Director with the Nebraska Bureau of
Business Research, and Phil O’Donnell, Military Affairs Liaison with the
Commission on Military and Veteran Affairs, are the cohosts of this session.
Attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their thoughts
during the Q&A session. Those interested in attending can register online. There
is no cost for this webinar and registration is open to the public. The last
day for registration is February 9. |

date for the 2023 Nebraska Women Veterans Symposium! This year’s symposium
will run from October 13-15, 2023 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention
