DALLAS
(February 6, 2019) – In recognition of National Black
HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (NBHAAD) Dallas County Health and Human Services
(DCHHS) will offer free and confidential HIV/STD testing to Dallas County
residents. This year’s NBHAAD theme, “Together for Love: Stop HIV Stigma”.
It raises awareness that we all have a role to play in stopping HIV stigma.
DCHHS invites residents to participate in
this year’s event Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the
following location:
Paul Quinn College
3837 Simpson Stuart Rd.
Dallas, TX 75241
Additionally, DCHHS will offer free testing
for chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis. Free flu shots will be available
from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
According to the Center for Disease Control
and Prevention (CDC) 1 in 2 people with HIV have had the virus at least 3
years before diagnosis and about 40% of new HIV infections come from people
who don’t know they have HIV.
“Let’s empower our community to seek HIV
testing, prevention, and treatment options”, said Interim Director Ganesh
Shivaramaiyer. “Let’s stop HIV stigma, together.”
DCHHS health officials are urging Dallas
County residents to take advantage of this free opportunity to get tested.
Free and confidential testing will also be offered at DCHHS building
located at 2377 N. Stemmons Fwy, #100, Dallas, TX 75207 from 8 a.m. – 4
p.m.
“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of
cure”, said Dr. Modesta Onyia DNP, Nursing/Clinical Supervisor STD Clinic.
“Prevent HIV by using condoms every time you have sex, getting tested,
reduce the number of sex partners and know your status.”
