In a rare move, Humana Inc. this week squashed...

...rumors that it is working on a deal to acquire Centene Corp., citing "significant investor speculation" about the potential takeover. The deal would have caused a substantial market shakeup, as Humana currently holds just one state Medicaid contract, in Florida, while Centene is the largest provider of managed Medicaid plans in the U.S. Humana currently holds just 0.8% of national Medicaid market share, with 428,467 lives. A Centene buy would have boosted the insurer’s national market share to 14.8%.
