Temple
University Health System and UnitedHealthcare signed a new deal Monday
extending their provider network relationship.
The multi-year
agreement gives UnitedHealthcare employer-sponsored and individual plan
participants continued access to Temple University Health System physicians and
facilities.
Financial terms
of the deal were not disclosed.
“We are pleased
that UnitedHealthcare recognizes the tremendous progress we have made in North
Philadelphia and the region to enhance care, expand our regional [advanced
care] services, and restructure our health system to adjust effectively to a
rapidly changing market place,” said Dr. Larry R. Kaiser, the president & CEO of
Temple University Health System, in a prepared statement. “This new agreement
allows us to make further investments and opens the door to stronger
collaboration between UnitedHealthcare and our health system.”
Dan Tropeano, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of
Pennsylvania, called the Temple health system "an important care provider (that)
offers the people we serve through our health plans access to quality,
cost-effective care."
In
Pennsylvania, UnitedHealthcare serves more than 1.1 million people enrolled in
Medicare Advantage, employer-sponsored, individual and Medicaid health plans.
Temple
University Health System, a $2.1 billion academic health system, consists of
Temple University Hospital (TUH), TUH-Episcopal Campus, TUH-Northeastern
Campus, Fox Chase Cancer Center, Jeanes Hospital, the ground and air-ambulance
Temple Transport Team, and Temple Physicians. Temple University
Physicians, Temple Health’s physician practice plan, is comprised of more than
500 full-time and part-time academic physicians in 20 clinical departments.
