Supplement market leader United Healthcare (UHC) released 4th quarter 2019
financials on January 15th and reported a loss of 10,000 Medicare
Supplement lives in the 4th quarter. The UHC enrollment table below features
Standardized and Modernized policy in-force counts of 4,500,000 as of
12/31/2019, a 45,000 decrease in the past 12 months. The 45,000 decrease in
lives in 2019 is a 1.0% decrease over the in-force lives at year-end 2018.
This
UHC enrollment table shows Medicare Advantage enrollment counts of 5,270,000 as
of 12/31/2019, a 325,000 increase in the past 12 months. The 325,000
enrollment increase in 2019 is an 6.6% increase over the Medicare Advantage
enrollment counts at year-end 2018.
This
combined UHC enrollment table shows Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage
enrollment counts of 9,770,000 as of 12/31/2019, a 280,000 increase in the past
12 months. The 280,000 enrollment increase in 2019 is a 3.0% increase
over the combined enrollment counts at year-end 2018. UHC’s
combined Medicare Supplement and Medicare Advantage enrollment of almost 9.8
million at year end 2019 is approximately 16% of the overall Medicare
enrollment at that same point in time.
