Massachusetts' first identified case of the Omicron variant was found...

...in a woman in her 20s who lives in Middlesex County, public health officials announced on Saturday, spurring on even more calls for people to be careful and follow COVID-19 precautions.

Governor Charlie Baker, speaking at an event Sunday, urged people to get vaccinated (including a booster dose) against the coronavirus, and state leaders are especially imploring families to get young children vaccinated.

Meanwhile, public health experts are warning people: Be careful and be prepared to change your behavior if things take a turn.

"Keep your eye on the data and be prepared to change your plans if this virus turns out to be worse than those that came before it," Dr. Philip J. Landrigan, the director of Boston College’s global public health program, told the Globe on Sunday.
