Legislature Kicks Off 2022 Session

On January 5th, the Second Session of the 107th Nebraska Legislature began. This year is a 60-day short session, and new bills were introduced through January 20th. NDVA tracks all military and veteran-related legislation introduced in each session, and updates are sent out via email each Friday until the Legislature adjourns sine die. Veterans Homes Receive Donations From Veterans of the Midlands Foundation

Veterans' Homes administrators Jerry Eisenhauer and Matt Bauman and interim administrator Josh Stafursky accept donations from Veterans Homes Board member Dennis Schissel.

At the most recent Veterans Homes Board meeting, board member and Nebraska VVA Council Vice President Dennis Schissel presented the administrators of each of Nebraska’s four veterans’ homes with donation checks from the Veterans of the Midlands Foundation. Thank you for your continued support of our agency, our homes, and the veterans we serve!

Director Hilgert Testifies Before Legislature’s Appropriations Committee

On January 26th, Director Hilgert testified before the Appropriations Committee and spoke about the recent pay increases at our veterans’ homes that have resulted in a large increase in applications and hires, as well as the Nebraska Veterans Cemetery in Grand Island project and the incredible teamwork and support of Hall County, Grand Island, and central Nebraska.

CNVH to Hold CNA Training Class

The Central Nebraska Veterans’ Home is holding a paid CNA training class. The class begins February 14th and runs through March 4th, with participants attending Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the facility, located at 4510 East 56th St, Kearney. Participants earn while they learn, making $15.60/hour during the class and have their supplies and certification test paid for. Upon successful completion of the class and certification, participants can transition to part-time or full-time employment at the facility starting at $18.807/hour.
