"State of Tobacco Control" Key Findings

Key Findings

 

American Lung Association

 

Adult smoking rates declined from 21.6% in 2003 to 14% in 2019, a 35% decline.

 

 

The youth vaping epidemic continues. More than two million middle and high school students reported using e-cigarettes in 2021.

 

 

The country continues to see more tobacco use and exposure to secondhand smoke in communities experiencing health disparities. More progress needs to be made towards eliminating these inequalities.
