35% of US COVID-19 cases involve BA.2 subvariant
The Omicron BA.2 subvariant accounted for nearly 35% of COVID-19
cases in the US for the week ending March 19, and the subvariant was
particularly prevalent in the Northeast, according to the CDC. The country's
seven-day moving average for new COVID-19 infections fell to 27,747 on Friday,
down almost 18% from the previous week, and National Institute of Allergy and
Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci said the US isn't expected to see a
major surge in cases from the BA.2 subvariant.
