Oral bacteria linked to hypertension risk in older women
A study published in the Journal of the American Heart Association
identified 15 types of oral bacteria associated with high blood pressure in
women ages 53 to 81, with most of the bacteria linked to an increased risk for
the condition and five associated with reduced risk. The 10-year study of 1,215
women strengthens the case of oral health's link to heart health but does not
provide proof that the microbial composition of the mouth directly affects
blood pressure, according to study authors.
