Current waste water levels
The amount of coronavirus detected in Mass. waste water fluctuated up and down in recent weeks, but remained markedly lower than the Omicron surge earlier this year.

Tracking variants and viruses


BA.5 remained the dominant variant of cases nationwide by far, in the week ending July 23. The mutation has raised the likelihood of reinfections.

  • The dominant variant: BA.5 (81.9% of US cases)
  • Other variants: BA.4 (12.9%), BA.2.12.1 (5%)
