I
will never forget the day that I nearly died.
I was a young journalist with a great career and I was just starting a
family. The only way I found out that I had any type of heart issue was when
I went into cardiac arrest.
Fortunately, my coworkers had recently been trained in lifesaving CPR
protocols developed by the American Heart Association. They sprung into
action and were the ones to keep me alive until paramedics arrived.
I’m sharing my story because this issue is personal to me. In fact,
chances are it’s personal to you, too.
Each year, more than 350,000 people in the U.S. go into cardiac arrest
outside of a hospital. Sadly, about 90% die — but bystander CPR can double or
triple the chances of survival.
Watch my story to see how CPR saved my life, and then
learn Hands-Only CPR so you’ll be ready to save a life if you’re ever called
upon.
