Study is ‘the ultimate test’ of beta-amyloid hypothesis

Researchers are launching the DIAN-TU Primary Prevention Trial, a study designed to test whether stopping the buildup of a sticky substance in the brain called beta-amyloid will prevent Alzheimer's disease. The trial, which is funded by the Alzheimer’s Association, the National Institute on Aging, GHR Foundation, Edward Jones and others, will give a treatment to people as young as 18 who have a rare gene mutation that causes Alzheimer’s.
