Governor Charlie Baker activated up to...

 ...

200 members of the National Guard today to assist with COVID-19 testing in public schools and up to 250 members to offset potential staffing shortages at the Department of Correction.

Many school districts had faced delays implementing their requested testing programs due to staffing shortages, according to the state. The Guard members will get trained this week and are expected to start testing in schools next Monday.

You may recall: It's not the first time the National Guard has been called upon to help during the pandemic. Members have also been assisting more than a dozen districts with school transportation.
