Get your medication ready for travel

July 5, 2018
Safely dispose of your medications
Did you know 7 out of 10 prescriptions remain unused and available for potential abuse? An important part of maintaining your health and safety is to properly dispose your unused medications.

Want to get rid of unused or expired medications without harming the environment? OptumRx can help.

OptumRx will send you a drug disposal kit—free of charge—to easily and safely dispose of your unwanted medications.

Call a customer care representative toll-free at (855) 828-9834 (TTY: 711) to receive a free disposal kit.

It’s summer-time. For many of us, that also means vacation time. Make the travel easy. As you plan your travel adventures, don’t forget that your medications may have to come along on the trip. It’s important to plan for that, too.

Review this list of travel tips before you pack:
  • Make sure to have enough medication on hand for your entire trip.
  • Get any medication refills before you leave.
  • Learn about exceptions that airports may make for medically necessary liquids, medications and creams. Refer to Transportation Security Administration (TSA) security screening requirements for medications at https://www.tsa.gov/travel/special-procedures.
  • Don’t worry about lost luggage. If you must pack your prescription medicines in checked luggage, remember to keep an allowable amount of your medications with you.
  • Bring or pack your pharmacy ID card.
To locate a pharmacy while on vacation, HealthSelectSM of Texas, Consumer Directed HealthSelectSM and HealthSelectSM Out-of-State members can use the OptumRx® “Find a network pharmacy” search tool at www.HealthSelectRx.com

Members can also call an OptumRx customer care representative toll-free at (855) 828-9834 (TTY: 711) or visit
www.HealthSelectRx.com.
