After determining the state mishandled its bidding process, Louisiana's state procurement officer earlier this month...
...tossed out the state's most
recent Medicaid contract awards, which were selected in August. Much of the
controversy stemmed from Centene and Aetna's shutout from the contract wins,
with the two companies alleging that the awards were biased in favor of Humana
Inc., which won a contract despite being a new entrant in the state’s Medicaid
program. Aetna and Centene combined enroll nearly 600,000 Medicaid
beneficiaries in Louisiana. Louisiana's existing contracts, which currently
serve 1.53 million Medicaid members, will remain in place through the new
bidding process.
