The cultural and policy activism and achievements of the Grey
Panthers, founded by Maggie Kuhn in 1970, have faded over the decades as aging
advocacy groups have focused on other ways to fight ageism, writes Susan
Douglas, author of "In Our Prime: How Older Women Are Reinventing the Road
Ahead." Douglas says there's an urgent need for intergenerational
alliances to tackle issues such as Social Security, ageism, and climate change,
and that older adults have become organized radicals before and can do so again.
