BioNTech CEO Ugur Sahin has said he is optimistic that the
company's COVID-19 vaccine candidate, being co-developed with Pfizer, will be
ready for regulatory approval by mid-October or early November. National
Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci, however,
said a COVID-19 vaccine is unlikely to be ready by Election Day, noting
"the only way you can see that scenario come true is if there are so many
infections in the clinical trial sites that you get an efficacy answer sooner
than you would have projected."
