Washington Update from NAHU September 11, 2020

Fast Facts

§  H.R. 2564, the Medicare Enrollment Protection Act, passed out of committee this week, meaning it is now eligible to be voted on by the House. The bill creates a special Medicare enrollment period for individuals enrolled in or transitioning out of continuation coverage under COBRA. This is an issue that NAHU has been working on for quite some time.

§  In their first week back from recess, Senate Republicans introduced another, “skinnier” coronavirus response bill that was promptly blocked, falling short of the 60 votes needed to pass the Senate. Will Congress be able to pass bipartisan legislation prior to the presidential election?

§  While we were busy worrying about all things pandemic, earlier this summer the Supreme Court issued a major employment law decision, Bostock v. Clayton County, that will impact employee benefit plans nationwide. Learn more during our next Compliance Corner webinar on Thursday, September 17, at 1:00 p.m. Eastern. Register here.
