Studies: Lipid-reducing therapies benefit older
adults
A study published in The Lancet found people ages 70 to 100 had
the highest risk of myocardial infarction and atherosclerotic cardiovascular
disease, but also gained the most benefit from taking statins for primary
prevention, when compared with younger adults. A second study in the journal
found treatments to reduce LDL cholesterol cut the risk of major vascular
events for people ages 75 or older by at least as much as they did for younger
patients.
