...parents, teachers, and students are wondering whether schools can stay open, as the state has ordered them to.
On Tuesday, officials said more than 1,000 Boston Public School staff members were out. The Boston Teachers Union said most of the absences were COVID-related.
The absences come after the largest teachers union in the state sparred with state education officials over COVID-19 testing.
To ensure public school employees could be tested for COVID before returning to classrooms after winter break, the state planned to distribute test kits, my colleagues Gal Tziperman Lotan and Taylor Dolven reported. The tests were delayed due to supply chain issues, and went from two tests per employee to just one, while state education officials rebuffed calls by the union for schools to stay closed Monday.
